OCTOBER'S
KNOTTY BEAUTY
Lynne Rachell
- How long have you been natural?
- I have been completely natural since April 23, 2009. I began transitioning on Thanksgiving, 2008 when I let my husband put in my last relaxer. I'd been transitioning a couple of months and gave up. I regretted it immediately.
- What made you grow natural?
I decided to grow natural after speaking with a friend of mine was transitioning. The idea of it appealed to me. So, I attended a workshop discussing the pros of wearing my hair natural. From that point forward- it was on. - Since you were natural when you ran across The Knotty Truth, how did TKT help you?
The Knotty Truth helped me by educating me more on the science of black hair and by encouraging me to get to know my own so that I could care for it myself. From TKT, I also learned about products, and how to search for good and bad ingredients. My husband even got on board after going to a TKT seminar in Cleveland. As soon as we returned home, he threw out all products including mineral oils, et. lol. - What do you love about being natural?
I love that I have gotten tons of time back in my day. No more lengthy salon visits unless I just want to go! I love that it has made me take a closer look at myself and how I take care of my body. My fitness activity has increased greatly without worrying over my hair. And moreover- I love that I am just me, that it sets me apart from the crowd. When we get separated in a store, my family finds me by looking for my hair! - Do you see yourself staying natural?
Without a doubt - I do NOT look back or think of getting a relaxer. I know my hair is versatile and that I can get it straightened if I want a change. - What is your natural goal?
My natural goal is simply to have healthy hair. Nothing more or less. - What nugget of advice would you like to share with other naturals that you learned from The Knotty Truth?
The best advice I can share that I learned from TKT that your hair is just as important as the rest of your body. You don't have to fear what naturally comes from your scalp and it won't cost you a fortune to care for it.
